Injured Matilda

So yesterday we had quite a scare. We were at someone's house getting a swimming lesson for Griffin and we were just finishing up. Griffin and I were still in the water and Matilda and Brie were ready to get dressed. Suddenly we heard a crash and a scream and looked over to se Brie holding Matilda who was crying uncontrollably. She had reached up onto a ledge and just barely grabbed a stone statue which toppled over on her. Brie moved quick and was able to deflect most of the weight, but it still crashed down in three pieces.

She was all red in the face, scuffed up and screaming so we were looking at her head and body to see where the injury was. Then we saw her left foot which was all swollen and scraped up. We quickly drove her to the emergency room. In the car on the way she would stop crying and start babbling so we figured she wasn't in constant pain. They were very kind at the ER, and gave Matilda and Griffin a popsicle even. So they took some X-rays and determined that they didn't see any broken bones, but said we should see an orthopedist in a day. All the while Griffin was complaining of a stomach ache and running a light fever. Matilda had to have a splint put on her foot which looks like a cast but is removable. And she has to stay off her feet for a few days which is hard for her. So now we are trying to have a quiet, relaxing day but it's hard since we're still out of our house.

Upon further reflection we think it's likely that the statue was already broken and just stacked precariously as if it was whole. It's not a big statute, but probably weighs a couple hundred pounds. It seems that if it landed on her hard enough to break it she would be a lot more injured. So we are all very lucky, just don't know yet if we'll make it up to Flaggstaff and Sedona this weekend or not, especially if Griffin is sick. I'll take some pictures of her injury, but it looked the worst yesterday and my camera wasn't with us.
